A farm is a magical place to a child.  It's like the Disneyland of all things agricultural.  As a child, you read stories about pigs that are friends with spiders, you play with plastic tractors and farm animals, you drink lots of milk and eat lots of eggs.  When you visit a farm, all those stories come to life.

My grandfather had a farm.  A big farm.  Going to grandma and grandpa's house was always so much fun.  As soon as we got there, I'd quickly run out and start exploring.  I'd spend hours looking at my grandpa's tools, crawling through the hidden passages of the barn, chasing the horses around the pasture and rummaging through his junk piles.

Fast forward 20 years.  Farming is still very much in my family and I'm darn proud of it.  My cousin Matt has a sweet farm in the foothills of Payson, UT.  He invited the family over after Christmas for some fun in the snow, on the farm, the way it should be.  With a 1946 Ford 9N Tractor, a quad and 3-wheeler, plus some sleds, we had a killer time.  We even started a fire in an old oil barrel.  It was agro-radness at its finest.

Big thanks to my cousin Matt and his wife Jenny for hosting such a great time on the farm.  Happy New Year.  May all of your wildest dreams come true.

This last picture is of me.  My cousin Matt was kind enough to let me take the tractor for a spin out in the field AND snap a photo of me tearing it up.  It reminded me of my Grandfather. I loved every minute of it.

Melissa has an awesome son - Jackson.  Melissa also has great style and ideas, like shooting their portraits in a Christmas tree lot.  WIN!!!

I don't think Jack sat still for more than 2 seconds, but we had a really good time chasing him around the lot with a camera.  He tied himself up in twine, tied his mother up in twine, tied me up with caution tape, tried to squirt me with the hose, and hid behind the Christmas trees.  We had a great time.

I posted the last image because I think it is hilarious.  Jack was running all over the place and then started to hide from me under his mom's dress.  Then he started to run.  Then the fabric put him to stop.  Then I snapped the photo.  WIN WIN!!!!

My attorney, my legal counsel, an esquire of the law and my friend.  A lot like Bob Loblaw, but se habla espanol.

Do not mess with me, or this guy will tear you apart in court.  Last time I checked, Stanford had quite the law school.  You've all been warned.

Ever heard of Skid Row?  Or better yet, ever been there?  It's an area of Downtown Los Angeles that is home to 7,000 - 8,000 homeless people.  I've always wanted to visit this "unsafe" area and photograph the people and landscapes.  I'm intrigued by the subculture and way of life these thousands of people call home.

This excursion was probably not the best idea I've had.  [insert mental image of a white boy walking around in Nike sneakers and cut-off shorts with a big camera and lens]  - you get the idea.  Luckily, I came away unharmed and only got yelled at a few times.  I will be going back soon.  Wanna come?  Jessica was brave enough...

I was quickly reminded of the fortunate life I have been given.  May we all remember how fortunate and blessed we are during this Christmas season.

Here's a peek into the life of Los Angeles' homeless who live on Skid Row.

Remember the Hurst Family??  Well they have a new addition to the family - as Austin Healey Sprite Mark I Bugeye.  It's a rad little car and made for the perfect prop to use in their family Christmas card portrait.

Mike - Father of the Blog:

Lisa - I used one light manually triggered and shot into an umbrella camera right. Notice the direction of the shadows falling off their legs.
